What is this about?
Barkour - doggie parkour - pawkour - whatever you want to call it - is all about you & your dog learning new fun ways to interact with the environment. You’ll never go for a walk the same way again! Barkour can help you and your dog both feel more confident and optimistic in the world; these are great skills to help with active avoidance during reactive moments, to increase handler engagement, and provide a wonderful source of physical and mental enrichment.
Skills we will learn include:
2 and 4 paws on a target, going over and under an obstacle, going through an obstacle, balance walk, gap jumps, go arounds, backing up, tictac jumps, and sequencing.
What are the logistics?
There are 3x 60-minute group classes, held at the following times and locations:
Thursday 7/10, 6-7pm, at a private Sniffspot
Saturday 7/12, 10-11am, at a reserved field in a small public park
Wednesday 7/16, 6-7pm, exploring around a large public park
There are no make-up classes or refunds.
Addresses and more information will be emailed to you upon registration.
What does this class cost?
The cost for this series is $125 per student.
How do I get on the waitlist?
Once all 5 spots have been filled, if you would like to join a waitlist please email me ali@uptosnuff.net
Who should attend this class?
This Barkour class is a good fit for human and dog teams who:
Can be successful in a learning environment near other dogs and strangers (some accommodations can be provided, but we will spend time in unpredictable public spaces)
Want to strengthen their bond and have a fun time together
Dogs have no existing injuries or orthopedic concerns
Already have an understanding of, and commitment to, positive reinforcement training
Not sure if this is right for you and your dog? Send me an email ali@uptosnuff.net
What if my dog is reactive or aggressive towards other dogs or people?
Barkour exercises can be part of a behavior change plan. However, since this is a group class and there will be other dogs and people in close proximity, we want to make sure that you and your classmates have a safe and enjoyable experience. If your dog will be over threshold in a class setting (barking, lunging, biting, shut down, refusing food, hypervigilant, etc) this might not be a good fit right now. We will be using lots of food reinforcement so if your dog tends to refuse food when they are in environments like this, you may want to consider private sessions instead. Dogs who have bite histories with people or other dogs will be asked to wait for a later series.
Requirements
Dogs must be current on vaccines including rabies, bordetella, DHPP/DLPP.
Do you offer any discounts?
At this time, we are not able to offer any discounts or payment plans.
Are there any prerequisites?
A general familiarity with positive reinforcement training, like how to use a marker (verbal or clicker) and how to deliver treats, are highly suggested. We also would like your dog to be able to relax on a mat so that they are comfortable hanging out while you listen to instructions and watch your fellow students demonstrate exercises.
